Merry Christmas everyone.
This episode we focus on that iconic sign of high school brotherhood, the noogie. Next time someone tries to pull that bullshit on you, you’ll be ready, and they’ll be sorry.

Hey guys!
Quick question:
For the first noogie-escape trick. When you lift and drop them, it seems assumed that they let go of your head. I guess the surprise is supposed to help in that, but what happens if they are a persistent bastard and they just squeeze onto your head tighter? Wouldn’t that just yank you down into another, floor-based, noogie?
Hey Anatoly, good question.
It’s likely that when you pop the opponent completely off the ground that they will not be strong enough to maintain a good grip. That aside, you’re right, most people will hang on for dear life.
The real answer to your question has to do with the stability of your stance. We train stances that emulate positions that you end up in certain throws so that when the other person tries to take you with them, they can’t. We’ve been putting off a “stances” episode because it’s likely that most people will find it boring, but it’s an essential building block for proper kung fu technique. The other option is to go with them, and bring their back down onto your knee. But, you know, we don’t want more paraplegics out there now do we…
Hi Anatoly,
Yeah some of these things are factors as to why the person lets go of your neck. But one thing that is not as obvious but is the most important is the fact that when you pick the guy up, the angle of the head lock changes.
I’m not saying that the opponent can’t start to squeeze again and change with your technique, but I am saying there is a moment when the angle of the headlock changes thus there is a little relief on the neck.
At a point like that, you would, or should, tuck your chin in making it impossible for the opponent to get the same grip around your neck that they had before.
As long as you keep moving the guy upwards and back, there won’t be any opportunity for them to grab your neck again.
Of course there is also the fact that the opponent will immediately become much more interested in not falling on their head than trying to keep you in a headlock.
Nothing is for certain but in general if someone does ever try to get you into a headlock always tuck your chin in, or try to put a hand or maybe your whole arm next to your neck so that they can’t get all the way around it.
But Ross is lying about us not wanting more paraplegics out there. This is exactly what we want! Just think, if all the assholes in the world all of a sudden lost the use of their legs, crime and violence would decrease at an amazing rate!
So kids remember…
paralyze the next sonufabitch to fuck with you and save the next guy the trouble!
in the upruight noogie. i feel that if you twisted your trunt, or hips toward your opponent it would give you more power. you would do this as you are hook ur foot, and are throwing your opponent. i am not shure so try it out to see if it works.
This seems to be a pretty good technique but one thing I’ve noticed in your video is that the person giving the headlock is either right next to or in front of the person who drops them. What do you do if they have you from behind?
This is good info. Thx
